His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has officially endorsed the commencement of "Oman 2040," a comprehensive vision that outlines the economic and social development trajectory for the Sultanate. The plan, set to be implemented from 2021 to 2040, was announced during a Council of Ministers meeting at Al Barakah Palace. Sultan Haitham highlighted that Vision 2040 emerged from a national consensus achieved through extensive discussions and consultations involving all segments of society. The overarching goal is to position Oman among the world's most developed nations, ensuring sustained prosperity and security for its citizens.

Central to Oman Vision 2040 is the strategic shift from an oil-dependent economy to a more diversified, knowledge-based one. Sultan Haitham emphasized the imperative of achieving fiscal balance and making the employment of citizens a national priority. The roadmap involves streamlining government services, fostering economic zones, implementing legal frameworks for investment, and undertaking major projects while nurturing national expertise. Sultan Haitham reiterated the government's commitment to five-year plans, including the upcoming 10th Five Year Plan (2021-2025), and closely monitored the State's General Budget for the fiscal year 2021.

Furthermore, Sultan Haitham stressed the collaborative role of Majlis a’Dawla and Majlis A’Shura in the developmental process, underscoring the importance of sustained cooperation between the government and the Council of Oman. Directives were issued to senior government officials and Governors to engage regularly with local communities, including sheikhs, dignitaries, and citizens, in order to assess wilayats' needs for services and development projects, and to gather opinions on service plans and programs.
